Female Finches become less choosy when they're less able

But according to the article, male finches don't care how able a female finch is. So it seems to me to be irrational  for female finches reduce their choosiness in response to a reduction of their ableness.

Maybe less able finches die sooner, so they'd better take what they can get now. It is surprising that male finches don't care. Males tend to be less discriminating, but not completely so.
