By the way, HHS is the largest of the federal government bureacracies. Off the top of my head, I remember reading that it has 65,000 employees and a budget of over $700 billion (although the budget is about $70 billion excluding Medicare and Medicaid -and about half of that is NIH).

I thought that the reason Daschle was selected was for his likely ability to get Congress to pass health care reform legislation.

That's not the JOB of HHS chief administrator, John. I think that's more appropriate for a position as Senior Advisor in the White House, like the job David Axelrod has.

I think the people I listed above have the demonstrated experience to move into the position ($700 billion annual budget, 65,000 employee, health bureacrcacy). And I think Daschle does not.
